The creator of the site, Workforce50.com, who helps Boomers over 50 look for jobs, shares his thoughts for how biased the workforce and Generation X is toward Boomers.

When companies don’t think of the “whole” picture.
Of course there are a lot of reasons for the rising job loss numbers affecting the Baby Boomer generation. The fact is that, whatever the reasons, the mere fact that Boomers are such a large portion of the work force will naturally lead to a huge impact on them.
Here is some good information that asks if companies are thinking of the future effect of losing so many of their workforce that carry with them, vast amounts of experience and judgment, while they are so busy reducing overhead through cutbacks and outsourcing.
Baby Boomers ‘valuable’ to workforce
Interesting comparison of 2008 and 1982 college graduates…

Talk about deciding what career to go into…
If you have a son or daughter going to college and undecided what field to go into, there’s always doctor, lawyer, teacher… and ah… funeral director??? Boomers need more Fish Oil?
Well, I do take fish oil as it’s health benefits have been written about of late, and I get the reference to living longer in the article below from The Boomer Cafe. We Boomers surely have been learning that we need to work longer than we may have expected to, but the last week has firmly cemented this fact, at least by about 5 years. So stock up Boomers and get your fishin’ poles out.

Tom Brokaw’s book about Boomers now in paperback.
I loved Tom’s book about the Greatest Generation. In 2007 he released “Boom” about the 1960’s. I haven’t read it yet, but I’m wondering if he, as many others, say the Boomers had a positive or negative on our culture.

OK….now I have one more thing to worry about…
Along with everything else that we keep in the back of minds… the economy in crisis, job loss, world foreign policy issues, retirement funds, weight, stress, crime, Viagra…on and on…and now…bone density loss in men too?? … I think I have to go lie down…
Obviously, I kid!!! We need to be aware of any potential issues we all face. I much prefer to prevent something from happening than deal with it when it’s upon you…not that we need to worry about everything in this world…just do the best we can.
