Well…don’t bait your hook yet for that retirement life of fishing…
It seems pretty obvious that Boomers will be working longer than they perhaps thought. This is likely to be a natural event as the life expectancy keeps increasing. If we are all living longer, why wouldn’t be normal to work longer than what was once perceived as retirement age? I remember that both of my grandfathers died around the age of 60, which was more likely in the 1960’s. They retired and stopped doing everything and that was probably not helpful to their health. No one is saying that this extended time working has to be the same 9 to 5 grind that was most of our lives. Today’s Boomers are increasingly changing careers when they reach their 50’s, whether the change be forced upon them or made by personal choice. Often, many people find they have reached the maturity to strike out on their own to start a business venture or begin to do something that is closer to their true passion.
Due to today’s economy in crisis, here is an article that illustrates the reality of extended our working years.
