Decisions…decisions…..???

retirement-lane

There’s a lot going on to try to decide what to do about retirement income, with the economy as it is…or rather, the lack of it. We all pretty much know that we all have to do some type of work and will not be able  to just say we are retired and go fishing. So many of we Boomers have been permanently laid off from long time jobs just as we are approaching retirement years. So what do we do? I think it is fairly obvious that it will be a blend of a few things…a bit of social security, 401k’s, retirement and part time jobs.

So….this will take some planning and decision making such as when to start collecting social security. Here are some good thoughts on that choice.

Here is just a Christmas Day article and website on Christmas and all about the celebration of the day. It’s the day after Christmas Day and for many, a day of returns or shopping deals and for many others like myself…a day to do nothing…

A Note to Parents…

computer-girl

As a long time technical analyst working with computers and the Internet for as many years as it has been around and has evolved…although I LOVE the net for all the wonderful benefits it gives us all to break down social and physical barriers, we all need to remind ourselves to be cautious at all times, especially if you have or know anyone who has children. There are so many of us who are becoming more extensive Internet users who can help others of us who are still novelists. Many of us know someone who is new to purchasing a computer or is buying new ones as Christmas gifts for their children to use. I have wondered why this issue has not been addressed at the source which is the actual computer! Computers are sold with all the security that is needed either on the it or readily available to the buyer, but always in a mode of “you should do this”! Why are the security methods not sold in a locked down state where the learning curve is in how to open to other family members. There are no ways of answering everyone’s questions or addressing everyone’s needs perfectly, but many security issues could be prevented if the computer was sold locked down only to be given open access to family members by going through easily understood wizards.

Here is an article reminding us to be careful to understand what our children are doing:

Do you know what your children are doing on the Internet?

Good lesson for all of us…

oldsters

My mother, who is a nursing care home now, used to always say… “You don’t know what it’s like to be __ (whatever particular age she was at that moment)”! How true!! It’s kind of an interesting facet of aging…that we approach a particular age and do a virtual turn around and “we get it”! It’s like a light bulb goes off in our heads and we just really start seeing the world in the other person’s shoes!

Here is an interesting quiz presented by Dr. Joyce Brothers in an article from Seattlepi.com.

Are you acquainted with ‘elderspeak’?

Show it on the news enough…and we shall come…

I don’t know why, but I am a right on target Baby Boomer, born in 1952 and I have been curious as to why my peers of the approximate same age have not been more involved in the Internet and social networking until now. True, I worked in the Information Technology corporate world, so maybe that is my rose colored glasses, but at last it looks like we are coming to social networking in larger numbers.

Paul Briand from The Baby Boomer Examiner has some great data on it.
