Boomers redefine retirement.

retirement

Baby Boomers are redefining what retirement means. It will not be like their parents, retiring to fishing, golfing or laying back in the recliner, and this is probably a good thing. I know, from my own perspective, that my grand-parents retired and more or less sat around the house and probably died earlier than they may have if they stayed busy. Of course, I not saying that were lazy slobs, lying around the house all day. They were busy doing things around the house and with their churches, but they stopped that daily, earning a living for the family. This can sometimes cause a negative, not needed, feeling in some, especially a generation that was used to hard laboring type of work all of their lives.

This article from InvestmentNews.com gives us some new terminology and details of the Baby Boomer generation in how we are redefining what retirement means. As for myself, due to the current economy crisis, have been laid off from my 22 year corporate job and I am probably part of the “Boomerang entrepreneur” group, as I am just a bit too young to fully retire (56), but trying to make a career change that I hope can become a satisfying and part time income to supplement my retirement years.
